Itinerary
Easily added as an extension to any Tanzanian or Kenyan safari, this four day extension allows you two opportunties to trek after the endangered and amazing mountain gorillas of Rwanda. Sitting just a few metres from a habituated family of wild mountain gorillas is one of the great wildlife experiences. A good level of fitness is required as the walk into the forest can take from one hour to over six hours depending on the position and movement of the gorillas.

Day 1. Late afternoon arrival at Kigali International Airport, drive around 2 1/2 hours to the Volcanos National Park. Overnight Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 2. An early start after a full breakfast to be at the briefing point for 7.45 a.m. After a briefing and allocation to your gorilla family, (maximum of 8 guests per gorilla family per day), drive to the start of your trek and walk into the forest. Enjoy the walk in the beuatiful surroundings, until you reach your gorilla family, when you spend one hour in their company. Return to the trailhead and to your lodge for overnight, full board basis.
Day 3. A second early start to trek after a different gorilla family. This time you can put your camera down more and simply watch these amazing animals, of which there are only around 900 left in the wild. Watch the juveniles playing and the babies suckling – all watched over by the huge silverback male. The largest group in this area has over 30 individuals. After the trek return to your lodge to pick up your luggage before returning to Kigali by road and to the Kigali Serena Hotel for one night, bed & breakfast.

Day 4. If you have time visit the city of Kigali and the Genocide Memorial before being transferred to Kigali Airport for your onward flight.

Cost from: US $ 1,570 per person, based on four people travelling together and sharing double/twin accommodation.

Plus $3,000 per person for gorilla trekking permits ( 2 x $1500 each).  Rwanda has doubled their permit fees w.e.f. 06/05/2017.

Note: there are many lodges available, Gorilla Mountain View Lodge is a mid-range property; a 5* lodge will increase the price significantly.
