Arusha Lodge, 1 night. You’ll be met off your flight into Kilimanjaro Airport by your guide and taken to your lodge set in its own grounds on the edge of the city of Arusha. There’s a swimming pool and space to explore with nearby attractions if you have time.
Manyara National Park, 1 night. After breakfast drive the interesting journey to Mto Wa Mbu, where you can have a fascinating insight into the Tanzanian way of life in one of the most culturally diverse areas in Africa. Have a ‘local’ lunch in a banana plantation and have a guided tour of the houses, plantations, clinic, banana brewery, wood carvers and markets of this African town. Later in the afternoon drive to your camp overlooking Lake Manyara and the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley.
Serengeti National Park, 2 nights. Morning game drive in Manyara National Park, looking for elephant, buffalo giraffe and lion amongst many other species. In the afternoon drive over the Ngorongoro Highlands and down onto the Serengeti Plains, game viewing all the way to your permanent camp. Full day of game viewing in the Serengeti.
Ngorongoro Crater, 2 nights. Game drive out of the Serengeti with a picnic lunch to spend time viewing the huge herds and stopping at the famous anthropological site of Olduvai Gorge, made famous by Louis and Mary Leakey. Climb the volcanic highlands to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and on to your lodge on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Have a full game drive on the Crater floor.
Tarangire National Park, 2 nights. After breakfast drive down into the Great Rift Valley and onto Tarangire. Lunch in camp and afternoon game drive in Tarangire National Park. Full day of game viewing looking for the great herds of elephant set among the magnificent baobab trees of Tarangire along with lion, leopard and good herds of wildebeest and zebra.
Fly to Zanzibar, Stone Town, 1 night. Drive back to Arusha and then fly by light scheduled aircraft from Arusha to the ‘Spice Island’ of Zanzibar, and to your hotel in the centre of Stone Town, a fascinating mix of Arab and African cultures.
Zanzibar Beach Lodge, for 3 nights. After a morning to explore Stone Town, possibly on an organised tour, in the afternoon be transferred across the island to your beach lodge. 3 days to relax, swim in the pool and the Indian Ocean, hire bikes, take boat trips for snorkelling or scuba diving or many other optional extras.
Day 13. In the afternoon you’ll be driven back to Zanzibar Airport for your international flights home.
