Itineraries and Costs
- Given the range and scope of the best safari areas we recommend a minimum of eight days on safari. A twelve day safari is possibly the ideal length of time for most people and will give you a real insight into the country and life on safari.
- Sample outline itineraries are given below; contact us for a more detailed daily itinerary. Please remember these are only examples; most of our safaris are private trips and are individually costed, the more unique and exclusive the safari experience, in general the higher the cost. As a guide, a customised private safari for four people using a mix of luxury mobile camps, permanent camps and lodges will cost from around U.S. $450 per person per day.
- Scheduled lodge safaris, on a seat-in-a- 4x4-vehicle basis, run from around $300 per person per day. This includes all accommodation, park fees, transport, transfers and most meals.
- Eight day Mt Kilimanjaro climb from $1710
- The most convenient way to reach Tanzania is on Royal KLM airlines from Amsterdam, flying directly into Kilimanjaro Airport.
- If you are a British resident, contact us for costs in pounds sterling, which depend on currency fluctuations, but will be confirmed at the time of booking.

The climb approaches the mountain from the west over the Shira Plateau, giving a much more wilderness experience than most routes up this popular mountain, and with visits to the little-used Shira Cathedral, Moir Valley and Lent Hills. This is a fully portered climb, using the African Walking Company, whose excellent and experienced mountain guides, cooks and mountain equipment all make a huge difference to your climb. Sleeping in mountain tents, and eating good food in a mess tent, and with extra nights on the mountain and acclimatisation hikes built into the itinerary, all increase your chances of a successful summit.
The Shira Route is considered a more challenging route than others, with longer on the mountain and more ascents and descents before the summit attempt, but for experienced hill-walkers looking for a route that is 'off the beaten track', this is our recommended route.
Day 1. Arrive in Arusha to your lodge for a climb briefing and dinner.
Day 2. Driven to Kilimanjaro and start your trek. Nights in mountain tents, walking from 3 to 7 hours a day.
